Despite their relatively short years of experience in management, the management
team at BioBusiness is quite effective. The team follows strict design and development
procedures that ensure total quality management for all the design elements. In
addition the process closely monitors all execution phases and milestones. All elements
of project management discipline are adhered to stringently. The team also uses
the company consultants to further enrich and enhance the total quality management
of all operational aspects.
The team had the following awards:
• In May 2008, a “Special Award for the Best R&D Project” in the (Mashro'ak Hakeka)
business plan competition.
• In October 2008, the team ranked 5th in the Technology Business Plan Competition
(TBPC) organized by the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF). There were
30 finalist teams representing more than 15 Arab countries.
• In January 2009, BioBusiness successfully qualified into the Young Arab Leaders
(YAL) entrepreneurship program. BioBusiness is currently being mentored by The Dow
Chemical Company as part of the program.
• In November 2009, continuing a successful business story, BioBusiness ranked 2nd
(out of 300+ competitors from the Pan-Arab region) in the MENA100 Competition organized
by the MENA Center for Investment in Bahrain.
BioBusiness was founded by Mostafa Elwakeel, Amr Elwakeel and Islam Badreldin; graduates
of the Biomedical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University.
Mostafa Elwakeel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering
in 2006. While studying at university, he worked part-time for LGIS (LG industrial
system) and as an instructor for embedded systems and micro-controllers in Cairo
University labs. After graduation, he worked in the field of product development
of medical devices. He has good experience in Automation, Electronics, RF Circuits
Design, and Medical Equipment Standards and Safety.
Amr Elwakeel received his B.Sc in 2007. Before graduation, he participated in a
number of commercial embedded systems designs including Sleep Apnea Detection and
Greenhouse Control Systems. He was the team leader of the "Integrated Home Health-Care
System" project that was submitted for the Bachelor degree to the Biomedical Engineering
Department. The project focused on implementing a proof-of-concept system to prove
the feasibility of implementing a telemonitoring system that enables remote monitoring
of patients' vital signs while at home. During the project, he gained experience
performing digital signal processing using FPGAs. After graduation, He worked for
a new start-up company that was developing a new medical instrument. He was responsible
for implementing the hardware and firmware for that instrument. Amr joined the Army
in November 2007 where he worked as a Maintenance Engineer. Amr is currently working
on his Master's degree in biomedical engineering.
Islam Badreldin received his B.Sc in 2007 with honors. He was ranked top of his
class. He was a member of the team of the "Integrated Home Healthcare System" project
that was submitted for the Bachelor degree to the Biomedical Engineering Department.
The project focused on implementing a proof-of-concept system to prove the feasibility
of implementing a tele-monitoring system that enables remote monitoring of patients'
vital signs while at home. During this project, he acquired new skills in the field
of Signal Processing. He gained experience with Embedded Linux development including
basics of kernel programming and creating Linux root-file-systems. After graduation,
Islam joined the German University in Cairo (GUC), where he was a Teaching Assistant
during the Winter Semester of 2007. As of April 2008, Islam is a Research Assistant
and a Teaching Assistant at the Biomedical Engineering Department, Cairo University,
where he is working on his M.Sc Thesis in the field of Biomedical Signal Processing.
